Week of March 12th

March 12th- march 16th
We use these words to be great citizens:

Reading: SOLs:
 2.12-Write stories, letters, and simple explanations
2.9-read and demonstrate comprehension of nonfiction text
Some friends are not completing their reading assignment on a nightly basis It will be logged the same as last year, and the expectation is that students read 30 minutes. Also, please have them log in two steps and place your signature beside it. On a daily basis, we should have 4 steps. The time may be broken into intervals. PLEASE SIGN READING LOGS NIGHTLY
This week, we will be working on opinion writing about an author’s message and comparing two stories

Math: The class took a test this week on time and did a wonderful job.  Next week, we will be working on money up to $2.00. IXL is a good website to help with subtracting with regrouping and all of the upcoming skills. If you do not have your child’s password, please let me know and I will get it to you.
Science: WE are starting magnets this week- we will be learning about repel and attract, lodestone, what magnets are made of, what can attract and repel from a magnet, north and south poles…

Turn in spelling activities on Friday
I am trying something different with spelling. I have spelling activities (3 of them) that I would like for the students to complete to help them with recognizing and spelling words. If they complete the activities, I am hoping that they will gain a better understanding of the words without giving a spelling test.
Monday:  math sheet, 2 steps; chapter  
Tuesday: math sheet, 2 steps, chapter
Wednesday: 2 steps; math sheet; chapter  
Thursday:  2 steps; complete activities for spelling; chapter
Friday: 2 steps and have a great weekend; math checkup on money;

v Mar. 16 – March Madness Spirit Day #2: Go Green! (Recycle those green things you wore today!)
v Mar. 23 – March Madness Spirit Day #3: Colorful Classes! (Each grade will show its unity by trying to get as many of its students and teachers to wear the same color: pre-K/K – purple, 1st – blue, 2nd – yellow, 3rd – orange)

v April 2-6th Spring Break
