Week of December 4th

                            December 4th- 8th
We use these words to be great citizens:
GRIT:  Gumption(initiative) Resilience ( to recover quickly from difficulties),Integrity(being honest), Tenacity(persistence-never giving up)
WE are switching lunch and resource times with 3rd (Mon-Thurs and next Monday) Lunch will be 12:00 and resource will be 11:05

Reading: SOLs:
 2.12-Write stories, letters, and simple explanations
2.9-read and demonstrate comprehension of nonfiction text
Some friends are not completing their reading assignment on a nightly basis It will be logged the same as last year, and the expectation is that students read 30 minutes. Also, please have them log in two steps and place your signature beside it. On a daily basis, we should have 4 steps. The time may be broken into intervals. PLEASE SIGN READING LOGS NIGHTLY

Social Studies:  2.3 The student will compare the lives and contributions of three American Indian cultures of the past and present,with emphasis on
1.  the Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands
2.  the Lakotaof the Plains; and
     c) the Pueblo peoples of the Southwest.

Math: 2.6- Estimating Sum and differences and calendar- please continue to work on ST Math at home
Homework
Do your know your power goal?
Monday ( December 4th)  Have some quality family time; read for 30 mins; math sheet and log in two steps; ST MATH
Tuesday,(December 5th): Have some quality family time; read for 30 mins, math sheet,ST MATH
Wednesday (December 6th):  2 steps; ST MATH, estimating quiz on addition and subtraction
Thursday: (December 7th) Have some quality family time; read for 30 mins and log in two steps; Math test on calendar- Friday
Friday:  (December 8th)Read at least 2 steps over the weekend; St math




Important Dates:
   Dec. 9 – Annual Smithfield Holiday Parade (8:30 a.m.)
    
   Dec. 12 – PTA meeting and 3rd Grade holiday production (6:45)
    
   Dec. 14 – School Board meeting (6:00)

   December 15th- Our class Christmas party 1:30-3:30

    
   Dec. 18 – Jan. 1Winter Break!
