          Week of January 23rd- January 27th
Reading skills for the various reading levels for the week:
2.5 TSW use phonetic strategies when reading and spelling. a) Use knowledge of consonants, consonant blends, and consonant digraphs to decode and spell words. b) Use knowledge of short, long, and r-controlled vowel patterns to decode and spell words. c) Decode regular multisyllabic words.
2.6 TSW use semantic clues and syntax to expand vocabulary when reading. a) Use information in the story to read words. b) Use knowledge of sentence structure. c) Use knowledge of story structure and sequence. d) Reread and self-correct.
2.7 TSW expand vocabulary when reading. d) Discuss meanings of words and develop vocabulary by listening and reading a variety of texts. e) use vocabulary from other content areas
2.8 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of fictional texts. a) make and confirm predictions. b) relate previous experiences to the main idea. C) ask and answer questions about what is read. d) locate information to answer questions. e) describe characters, setting and important events  in fiction and  poetry. F) identify the problem and solution. g) identify the main idea.  h) summarize stories with beginning, middle and end in the correct sequence.  i) draw conclusions based on the text. J) read and reread familiar stories, poems, and passages with fluency, accuracy, and meaningful expression.
Writing: The students will be finishing up their weather books that they did with Mrs. Holcomb for the Expo
Math- Money  and review week- They will be tested on Wednesday ( if the date changes, I will let you know)- I am sending home username and passcode for IXL math. This is an awesome program.
Social Studies: 2.2- The students will demonstrate knowledge of the United States by describing important developments and innovations in United States history. This will include developments and innovations related to communication and transportation.
Important Dates:
1/24- Bucket Filler Breakfast for selected students- Grant Propst is my Bucket Filler due to him helping me in the classroom due to my limited mobility; awesome helper in the class
1/25- Duty free lunch for teachers and thanks to PTA for lunch for all staff
1/26- Donuts for Dads at 8:00
Jeremy Wheeler @10:00 for 2nd graders
2:20 dismissal due to exams
1/27- End of the Quarter (Mrs. Holcomb will be completing the report cards); 2:20 dismissal
1/30 & 1/31- No school for students due to teacher workday/ professional developments
Homework:(subject to change)
Monday: 2 steps for (reading), review sheet on money
Tuesday: 2 steps for ( reading); review sheet on money
Wednesday:  2 steps for ( reading); review notes in social studies
Thursday: 2 steps for ( reading); review notes in social studies
Friday: complete steps for reading for the weekend and have fun with the family

Please check your child’s agenda each night and initial or sign by the color he/she earns for the day. Check red folders daily for any updates from the school or work completed
