Week of Jan 27th

WE had a compliment party this past Friday and we are already filling our jar up for the third time. Way to go, kiddos!!!!

Today we will make oobleck in class to discuss states of matter
There is no school for students on Thurs. and Fri.
WE will have a Super Bowl Party in class on Wednesday!(Details at the bottom of newsletter)
Reading: SOLs:
Reading    2.8b Make and confirm predictions
2.8d Set a purpose for reading (text features)
Vocabulary      2.6f Use vocabulary from other content areas
Writing 2.12e Organize information in writing or a visual display.
Science 2.1 Demonstrate an understanding of scientific and engineering practices
asking questions and defining problems 2.3 Investigate and understand matter can exist in different phases
c) heating and cooling can change the phases of matter
(K.3 investigate and understand physical properties can be described by a. color b. shapes/forms c. texture d. relative size & weight)

Some friends are not completing their reading assignment on a nightly basis It will be logged the same as last year, and the expectation is that students read 30 minutes. Also, please have them log in two steps and place your signature beside it. On a daily basis, we should have 4 steps. The time may be broken into intervals. PLEASE SIGN READING LOGS NIGHTLY
Science: We will be working on states of matter( we will be making oobleck in the class on Monday to show changes of matter
Math Review of all skills from this nine weeks: even and odd, subtracting and adding with regrouping, place value, greater than and less than, and ordinal numbers
Homework

Tuesday: 2 steps; ST MATH
Wednesday : 2 steps; ST MATH; super bowl party
Thursday: Have some quality family time; read for 30 mins and log in two steps; ST MATH
Friday: 2 steps

Super Bowl Party: The students will rotate through Super Bowl themed literacy stations:
*read a step while reading leveled football readers
*”Playing” with words- 2 syllables words and game board
* Casey’s Super Bowl comprehension passage ad questions
* Super Bowl Prediction: students write their prediction for the outcome of the Super bowl
* and chips and salsa
We are looking for fathers 2 to 3(moms are welcome too ) who can help out with the rotations
