Week in advance, March 20th

Week of March 20th-24th
We are working on our animal genre unit of study
2.8 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of fictional texts. a) make and confirm predictions. b) relate previous experiences to the main idea. C) ask and answer questions about what is read. d) locate information to answer questions. e) describe characters, setting and important events  in fiction and  poetry. F) identify the problem and solution. g) identify the main idea.  h) summarize stories with beginning, middle and end in the correct sequence.  i) draw conclusions based on the text. J) read and reread familiar stories, poems, and passages with fluency, accuracy, and meaningful expression.
Writing: This week we will be working on genre short stories collections
Math: 3rd Nine Weeks -  The area that is bold is what we are working on
SOL: 2.11 The student will estimate and measure
a)    length to the nearest centimeter and inch;
·      Estimate and measure the length of various line segments and objects to the nearest inch and centimeter
b)   weight/mass of objects in pounds/ounces and kilograms/grams, using a scale; and
·      Estimate and then measure the weight/mass of objects to the nearest pounds/ounces and kilograms/grams, using a scale.
c)    liquid volume in cups, pints, quarts, gallons, and liters.
·      Estimate and measure liquid volume in cups, pints, quarts, gallons, and liters.
Vocabulary: weight, mass, volume, capacity, pound, ounce, gram, kilogram, cup, pint, quart, gallon, liter

Science: 2.3
The student will investigate and understand basic properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Key concepts include
a) identification of distinguishing characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases;
b) measurement of the mass and volume of solids and liquids; and
c) changes in phases of matter with the addition or removal of energy.

Monday: 2 steps; work on St Math
Tuesday: 2 steps; work on ST MATH
Wednesday  2 steps ; work on ST MATH
Thursday: 2 steps; math board quiz Friday
Friday: complete steps for reading for the weekend and have fun with the family

Remember home steps add to school steps. We do at least 2 steps each day at school, and you should have 12 signed home steps each week in their reading folder.
